FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Do I need to apply for a visa and work permit? According to our current policies, no. We will be working with FiR in future years to seek working permits in Germany.
When I arrive in my location, am I responsible for arranging my own transportation to the ACU Study Abroad House? The local Program Director of each study abroad location will coordinate airport transportation plans with their respective Faculty-in-Residence (FiR) and RA.
Are FiR responsible for being "on-duty" every few weekends? No, FiR are rarely "on-duty" in their Study Abroad location. There tend to be very few issues on weekends that require immediate assistance, so if the FiR is away traveling, the local Program Director or RA can help. Local staff and FiR will remain in open communication about their presence/absence during any given weekend.
I may have a family member(s) or friend(s) visit during my time abroad. Are they allowed to come and stay at the house, and if so, is there a cost? Yes, limited FiR family and friends may stay at the ACU Study Abroad house, provided that (1) all visitor stays are cleared in advance by the Director; (2) the stay does not compromise your primary task of serving as the FiR and engaging students; (3) you remain responsible for your guests at all times (for example, they can never be on resident floors by themselves); (4) there is available space at the house for the guest. The guest(s) may stay in your apartment guest room, or if your guest room is being used by your family, they may be given a room near the FiR apartment or an unoccupied student room if the room is not adjacent to an occupied student living space.
