The experience of studying abroad can challenge everyone’s ability to stay healthy and balanced. Review the resources below to help stay active and support wellness during your time abroad.
Illness
Excused absences for illness are only given to students for verified cases of illness. Missed classes will be counted against students as part of the absence policy (see the ACU IP Student Handbook in the Policies and Handbook section). To request an Excused Absence for an illness, students must follow the following steps: 1) Submit your Illness Form before class. 2) Contact your program director or RA via WhatsApp to alert them to your form submission. Please note that you must submit a form for every day that you are ill.
Running
All the parks listed below have numerous running trails available:
Cutteslowe Parkrun: Free timed 5k every Saturday
Run on the Roger Bannister Track: Location where Sir Roger Bannister broke the 4 minute mile in 1954
Up & Running: Running shoe store
Sports
Football (soccer):
There is a local football pitch 5 min from the house for casual pickup games.
Oxford City FC hosts local matches at their stadium 20 min from the house.
Oxford United FC hosts matches at their stadium 50 min from the house.
Rugby: Watch a University of Oxford Rugby match
Croquet & badminton: Play a game in the backyard!
Counseling
There is also the option of using GeoBlue’s global Tele counseling service for immediate assistance
The counseling service is both free and confidential. Geoblue is staffed by professionals who are entirely independent of your program sponsor.
Professional standards regarding confidentiality bind them and will not disclose details of individuals who have contacted the service. Any information you provide will not be shared with ACU. To contact a counselor, follow the steps outlined below:
Each of ACU’s Global Hub-Sites has a dedicated mental healthcare professional selected for their therapeutic skills and ability to understand our students’ culture, faith commitments, and stage of life. Each program counselor will be introduced to students at the beginning of each term and will get to know students through the local orientation process. To schedule an appointment, click on the contact information below the profile photo and independently schedule a meeting time. Then, follow the steps from the “Counseling Quick Guide” link on the bottom to seek payment approval through our insurance provider, GeoBlue.
